Margarita Place Historic District Highlights
The Margarita Place Historic neighborhood was originally intended as an exclusive development and residential suburb in the “most ideal location in the city” according to an ad in the 1927 Arizona Republic. Construction was planned on a grand scale for large homes with ornate features. But, after World War II, more affordable homes were constructed to meet the needs of returning soldiers and their families. It was designated a historic district in 1999. Margarita Place Historic District is less than two miles from downtown Phoenix and preserves much of its original residential calm due to its abundance of green space nearby. To the west and south, you will find the the Encanto Golf Course wrapping the neighborhood, and bordering the neighborhood to the east is Encanto Park. Inside Margarita Place neighborhood several styles of homes offer a diverse mix spanning from Ranch style of the 40’s to the Period Revival styles of Tudor, Elizabethan, Spanish Colonial, and Mission Revival styles of the 30’s. This diverse mix is bolstered by each home having its own unique character, yet gives the neighborhood a cohesive identity of place.
