With a full housing recovery years away and personal income still tight, what can you do today to improve your home and its value? Whether you need to impress a potential buyer or just want to save on energy costs, one of the best answers is “Go Green.”
On April 21, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) selected 18 lenders to participate in its new “PowerSaver” loans program. PowerSaver loans provide homeowners with up to $25,000 to make environmentally-friendly improvements. Approved uses range from fairly large-scale, cutting edge advances such as solar panels and geothermal systems to simple upgrades like water heaters, HVAC replacements, and new insulation. Additionally, your investment could also qualify for other federal tax credits. You can find a list of existing tax credits and restrictions at energystar.gov.
