Roman Roads Highlights
Originally built in 1964 and designed by Al Beadle in collaboration with Laszlo Sandor, Roman Roads is a townhome community made up of 2 bedroom units located near the corner of 16th Street and Maryland Ave in North Central Phoenix. At the time 16th Street was only two lanes and a dirt road. Now days, Roman Roads is in the heart of area of North Central Phoenix known as “Uptown Phoenix” which has undergone a massive revitalization in recent years. At Roman Roads you are a bike-ride away from the best of what Phoenix has to offer – endless midcentury charm, popular restaurants, shopping and easy access to the 51 Freeway. The original marketing pieces for Roman Roads emphasized a carefree lifestyle providing “comfort, conveniences, and elegance… Homeownership with the ability to travel the world”. The architecture here celebrates indoor-outdoor living with maximizing daylight, large window walls, spacious patios with deep overhangs, and a double height living room. Each unit includes a 1,200 sq ft private courtyard and a small swimming pool, which became the inspiration for the community name after ancient Roman style courtyards with small bath pools.
In 2019 Roman Roads was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
