NORTHWOOD HOMES

This tract of Haver homes was developed 1953 through 1954 and is located along 12th Street just north of Glendale Ave and south of the canal.  Northwood Homes featured the Princess Home models which were promoted as “being the home for the happiest years of life”.  Haver incorporated the early implementation of the family room and family kitchen concepts – with a combination dining room, kitchen, and play area for children.  Inspired by the desires and needs of women in the home at the time, he located the door from the carport to allow for easy access to the kitchen for grocery hauling and errands.  In the family room he designed window walls to be made up of expansive glass floor to ceiling, when combined with a large roof area for deep overhangs, gave a strong connection to the outside with shaded patios for indoor outdoor living year round.  It originally offered for floor plans, with four variations on lot orientation of the homes.  Prices for homes here were originally $10,950 and featured 3 bedrooms and 1-1/2 bathrooms.  The size of homes here are generally smaller than some of the other Haver hoods and can serve as a great starter home for mid century modern enthusiasts.  It is also recognized as a sister neighborhood to Regents Park.
